The commandments — what God asks of me
God's commands are not hoops to jump through. They are the shape of a life that stays close to Him and safe from what destroys us.
The greatest commandments
Jesus summed up all of it: love God with everything you are, and love your neighbor as yourself. Every other command hangs on those two.
The Ten Commandments still show us God's heart — no other gods, no idols, honor His name, keep the Sabbath, honor your parents, do not murder, do not commit adultery, do not steal, do not lie, do not covet.
Matthew 22:37-40
"Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart... and thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets."

"If ye love me, keep my commandments."
Obedience and grace
You are not saved by keeping rules, and you are not kept by keeping rules. But a heart that has been changed wants to obey, and the Spirit gives power to do it.
When you fall short, don't hide. Confess, receive mercy, and keep walking.
1 John 5:3
"For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous."
Philippians 2:13
"For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure."
